Riverside art students are painting a model mountain town, working out how color and texture can make a small scene feel like a place people know. Teams mix a shared palette before adding buildings, paths, trees, and the hills behind them.
The class began with observation sketches and a discussion about what makes a neighborhood welcoming. Students are learning to keep a consistent scale while leaving room for each teammate’s ideas. They step back between painting sessions to see how the pieces work together.
The finished model will travel to the Student Learning Expo at Cedar Ridge on October 22. Visit between 5:30 and 7 p.m. and ask the student artists to point out a detail that changed after their first sketch.
